Dear Lab Guy,
I am inquiring about the ProCulture® Cordless Homogenizer Unit for Micro-Tube Homogenizer System. Is this unit capable of lysing cells? Even smaller cell types such as sperm cells?
Hi Corey,
I don’t think our handheld homogenizer should be your first consideration. The space between the pestle and the microcentrifuge tube is key – the tighter the fit, the better the grind.
Maybe your sample should be frozen and pulverized first before lysing? If so, I would start with the Mini Liquid Nitrogen Cooled Mini-Mortar and Pestle Set.
From this point I would recommend using the complete system we offer: battery powered homogenizer and MCT-tubes and pestles. These pestles are designed to be the tightest fit between pestle and tube wall. This will produce the best grinding and lysing. These pestles, are individually packaged and RNA-ase and DNA-ase Free.
I hope this helped and answered your question. Thanks for writing in, and please feel free to write back if I can help in any other way.
Yours in science, Lab Guy
