I have a question regarding the table-top Polyethylene Buchner Table-Top Funnel. Are those meant to be used for vacuum filtration or gravity filtration? If it's for vacuum, do you have a recommendation on the pump, hose (and/or a separate water container?) set up that can work with that funnel. Thanks!

Hi Li,

The Table Top Buchner Funnels can be used with a vacuum pump (max. 10 PSI) or by gravity. The pump to pull a vacuum could vary depending upon the size of the Buchner Funnel being used. We happen to test the funnels using a Welch Vacuum Pump. As to collection containers we prefer glass containers since they will not collapse if the filter material is viscous and creates a higher vacuum within the collection container.

SP Scienceware sister brand Wilmad-LabGlass LG-3465 Filter Carboys with Hose Connector are a good option with the addition of a single port rubber stopper available through most distributors. Your pump would be connected to the carboy with the funnel connected to the stopper to prevent filtration liquid from entering the vacuum pump.
